How my Journey Began!

Updated: Feb 2, 2023

This is my first blog and hopefully I can help someone along the way with my experiences.

We’ll start off from my beginning, the story of how I was first inspired by this fitness

world, as the weeks go by I will hopefully tell you some funny, awkward, inspiring and

educational stories.

As a 12 year old kid I was very shy, had a terrible speech impediment which made me not even want to talk, sometimes school was a nightmare, especially on days I had to talk in front of class. I was introduced to weights by my older brother, he forbid me to touch his home weight set, which made me want to lift them even more. So I set out on a quest to save all my grass cutting money, there was a lot of sweat and long hard work days before finally I saved enough money to buy a new DP weight bench and weight set. Although it only cost $150 at $3 a yard it took a long time.

I can still remember how proud I was when my dad took me to the Alexanders store to pick it up. I have a picture hanging in my studio of that bench and weights, so I will never forget how it all started. I didn’t know it at the time but this would forever change my life. This little bench and weight set would build up my confidence and give me a dream to dream.

My dad gave me a small section in his garage to store my weights, I was so dedicated it

didn’t matter if it was hot or cold weather. I would use a kerosene heater in winter nothing

would stop a workout. But my favorite workout days were warm weather days, I would

bring the set outside and lift in the sun, knowing full well that the older girl next door

would be sunbathing. I can only imagine what she might have thought if she looked my way

probably what a loser.

But this is where I taught myself work ethic, determination, the will to never quit and

found the fire inside.

I had finally found a place that I was in control. This was my place, even though at the time I didn’t have a clue at what I was doing, this was the start of building the foundation of hard work, discipline and a no quit attitude. The lessons learned during this time of my life has lasted a lifetime.

Now I have long busy days filled with stress and commitments but at the end of the day I can always go back in my mind to those days when it all started with the cement filled weights and all the stress is gone.

Train Hard, Ronnie
